What is after school care?
Care for children aged 4 to 12, before and after school and during the holidays. It is a safe, familiar place where children can be themselves, play with their peers, relax and explore. Good for your child and good for you. This way, you can work or study with peace of mind.
How does after school care work?
Many primary schools work together with one or more after school care settings. What should you look for when choosing an after school care setting? If you want to apply for after school care, it is a good idea to first check whether the after school care of your choice works together with the primary school your child attends. On the location page of our after school care settings, you can see which schools we collect children from. After you have registered, you will be informed whether there is immediate availability or whether there may be a waiting list. The after school care may be located in the school building or elsewhere in the neighbourhood. In the latter case, our pedagogical staff will either collect the children or take them to school.
Before-school care
Before school starts, children can attend before-school care (vso). This is usually between 7:00 and 8:30 a.m. They usually have breakfast together and are taken to their class on time. This is useful if your working day starts early.
Lunchtime care
At lunchtime, usually between 12:00 and 12:30, some schools offer lunchtime childcare (tso). Children have lunch at school, supervised by our professionals. A nice break with time to recharge.
After school care
After school, after school care (bso) begins. Our pedagogical staff pick up the youngest children when school is out. The time this happens and the opening hours of the bso vary per location. Older children often come to the bso themselves. First a snack, then chilling, playing or participating in an activity. Nothing is mandatory, but a lot is allowed. The after school care is a place where children make their own choices, take initiative and have fun – every day. Parents pick up their children at the end of the day. Older children often go home on their own.

Costs after school care
The cost of after school care depends on your personal situation. If you use childcare, you are probably also entitled to childcare allowance. This is a government contribution towards the costs of childcare.
