What is a Little Golden Book?
You are probably familiar with them, the Little Golden Book series by publishing house Rubinstein. They are everywhere, from bookstore to museum. Globally, over 1,500 Little Golden Books have been published, with over 3 billion copies sold. Many of the Little Golden Books, which are of Dutch origin, are the product of a partnership between publisher, author, illustrator, and museums and institutions such as Rijksmuseum, Schiphol Airport, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the Efteling theme park, and Artis zoo. They often serve a societal purpose. And now we are also joining the Little Golden Book family, which fills us with great pride!
The role of our out-of-school care children
We ran a contest at all our out-of-school care centres, asking the children to explain in a creative way why they would like to make a little book about the subject of ‘Friendship between young and old.’ We received very varied and beautiful presentations. The video presentation from a group of out-of-school care children from Amsterdam stood out. They will be getting to work on the Little Golden Book.
And then there is a book
In late September, just before the Week Against Loneliness, we will be organising a festive book presentation. All our daycare centres will be given a copy and the little book will, of course, also be taken to local elderly care centres, so that the elderly residents there can read it to the children. But there is more. We also want to see the Little Golden Book on the shelves at bookstores across the Netherlands, and chances are that this will actually happen.
