07.30 - 09.00 AM: welcome
‘We are open at 7.30 a.m., that’s when parents can start bringing their children. We always greet the child first and have a chat with the parents. Did their child sleep well? Are there any particularities? Our program starts around 9 a.m., so we ask parents to bring their child before that time if they can.’
09.00 - 09.30 AM: fruit
’Some babies go to sleep around this time. Those who do not sleep (yet) – like the older children – will sit at the table. We will read a book and sing songs. We eat some fruit together after we’ve sung the song ‘eet smakelijk’ (enjoy your meal). The older children get pre-cut pieces and the babies get
a fruit mash. They will drink some water after they have finished their fruit. Some already drink from a regular cup and others from a spout cup. Then it’s time to clean the children’s diapers.’
09.30 - 10.30 AM: head outside
‘It’s time for an activity around 10 a.m. We will head outside if the weather allows us. This week we have entered the theme of the ‘Smaaksafari’ (exploring different flavors) and the sweet potato is at the heart of the matter. It means that we will try to ‘taste’ the vegetable in all kinds of ways. For example, one pedagogical staff has hidden a sweet potato in the sandbox, so the children can dig it up. And
there is always room to play freely. Children can play with twigs, leaves, sand, and water or go cycling.’
10:30 AM - 11:30 AM: choose your own
'The children can do whatever they want. Do something crafty at the table, build, play with the dolls or quietly read a book. When it's almost lunch time, we all clean up. We encourage the children by singing the song 'We're guaranteed to go'. And so they know that we are going to do something different again.'
11:30 AM – 12:30 PM: lunch
'We set the table together, sing a song and have dinner. The children receive milk or water with their meal. Then we clean up and prepare for bed. Each child gets their own washcloth to wipe their mouth and hands with.'
12.30 - 2.00 PM: time to sleep
‘Most children go to sleep at this stage. The children who no longer nap during the daytime can find themselves a nice spot with pillows where they can rest or read a book.
2.00 PM: wake up
Most children wake up again around two o’clock. We encourage the oldest children to get dressed themselves. We comb their hair or put a tail back in. It’s time to slowly wake up and play freely.’
2.30 PM: activity
‘Around half past two we plan an activity. We craft at the table, make music, read or play a game. We try to come up with things that fit the theme of that moment. We often ask the toddlers what they want to do.’
3.00 PM: time for a snack
‘Around three o’clock we gather everyone and sit at the table. It is time for a snack with a cracker and a cup of water. Whereafter the children can play freely again.’
5.00 PM: end of the daycare
‘We finish the day with fresh vegetables. We’ve got pieces of raw food for all children to eat, such as cucumber, peppers, carrots, or tomatoes. Also, the first children are usually been picked up by their parents around this time. We do a short handover. We tell them how the day went, even though they can read it in our parent app.’
